More Innocents Lost in Gun Violence In Nevada Due to Antidemocratic Senate
The Upper Chamber's Violation of Universal and Equal Suffrage Repeatedly Blocks Common Sense Gun Control with Majority Public Support
Wednesday afternoon saw as many as three innocent Americans killed from a shooting at University of Nevada in Las Vegas. According to the BBC there have been approximately two mass shootings nearly every day for the last three years. We all know this has been a societal issue to a point many Americans have become desensitized to this phenomenon. This comes after decades of majority support across the United States for common sense gun safety legislation while Congress blocks every attempt.
The inability of the American people to fix national issues like mass shooting violence is a reflection of our antidemocratic constitution and unequal political system. The US Senate is the primary constitutional barrier to the American majorities capacity to pass laws and address social and economic issues.
The violation of universal and equal suffrage present in the Senate, is a historically consistent demand in modern democratic movements going back to our founders Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine. As a member of The Movement for a Democratic Constitution we want a democratic republic that guarantees universal and equal suffrage in a single House of Representatives.
